Five Daycation Ideas Under $50

A Deluxe Sea View day room at Al Murjan Palace Hotel is $40 for a six-hour session. Here are five ways to use it where the room is genuinely most of the cost.

1. The pool afternoon — $40, split two ways

Book 12:00–18:00. Swim, sit, swim again, shower, drive home. Bring water and something to eat, or use the hotel and add to the total as you like. Two people at $20 each for an afternoon by a pool with a private room to change in is difficult to beat anywhere on this coast.

2. The deep work morning — $40

Book 06:00–12:00. Take the desk, put your phone somewhere else, and finish the one thing that has been sliding for three weeks. Reliable power, air conditioning, a closed door. Cheaper than a day of café coffees and considerably more productive. If you do this weekly it is about $160 a month — less than most co-working memberships.

3. The reset day — $40

No plan at all. Book the afternoon, take a book, sleep for two hours in the middle of it, look at the bay, go home. This is the one people are most sceptical of and most grateful for. A quiet room you are not responsible for is a genuinely different experience from a quiet room at home.

4. The small anniversary — $70

Slightly over the line, but worth listing. A Junior Suite at $70 for the afternoon, a swim, and a proper lunch turns an ordinary date into an occasion without a hotel bill attached. For most couples this replaces a dinner that would have cost about the same and been over in two hours.

5. The out-of-town welcome — $40

If someone is visiting Lebanon for a day, or passing through between flights, a day room gives them somewhere to shower, sleep and leave a bag, and gives you somewhere civilised to sit and catch up. Twenty minutes from Beirut, with a view worth showing off.

Keeping it actually under $50

• Book midweek. Weekend availability is tighter and the property is busier.
• Bring water and snacks. Minibars are minibars.
• Split a suite rather than taking two rooms if you are two couples — $70 across four people is $17.50 each.
• Go in shoulder season. Late May, September, early October: warm water, quiet pool.
• Skip the second session. Booking both blocks costs more than a night at many properties. If you want twelve hours, price the night first.
