Sea View or Mountain View? Choosing a Room in Jounieh

9 October 2026 · 2 min read

On an overnight stay, the view is a nice detail you notice on arrival and again at breakfast. On a day booking, it is most of what you are buying. You are awake for the entire stay, and a large part of the point is sitting somewhere and looking at something.

Jounieh gives you a genuine choice, because the town is wedged between the Mediterranean and Mount Harissa.

The case for the sea

The bay is the obvious draw and the more popular choice, for good reasons:

  • The afternoon light. West-facing, so from about four o'clock onwards the water does something worth watching. If you book the 12:00–18:00 session, this is your reward for staying until the end.
  • Movement. Boats, the ferry line, weather coming across the water. It is a view that changes.
  • It pairs with the pool day. If the plan is swimming and sun, facing the water is thematically correct.

The Deluxe Sea View at $40 at Al Murjan Palace Hotel is the entry point, and for most people it is the right booking.

The case for the mountain

Less obvious, and better in specific circumstances:

  • Morning sessions. On a 06:00–12:00 booking the sun is behind you rising over the mountain, and the light on Harissa in the early hours is the best it gets all day.
  • Working. A west-facing room in the afternoon can be genuinely bright. If you are at a laptop for six hours, facing inland is easier on both you and your screen.
  • Summer heat. Rooms facing away from the afternoon sun are cooler, which in July and August is not a small consideration.
  • Quiet. The coast road is on the sea side.

The simple rule

Midsummer, midday, want the room coolMountain

Ask, do not assume

Room categories describe the room, not always the exact aspect. If the view matters to your day — and on a six-hour booking it usually does — say so when you book. Hotels will accommodate a stated preference far more often than they will guess one. This costs you one sentence and is the highest-return request you can make.

And if you are undecided

Take the sea and book the afternoon. It is the version of the day most people picture when they imagine a daycation in Jounieh, and it is $40.
