Renting a Rooftop for an Afternoon: Small Private Events

There is a real gap between "book a table for twelve" and "hire a venue". Restaurants put you in a corner of a busy room. Event spaces are priced and structured for weddings. Neither works for a thirtieth birthday, a small engagement celebration, or a team lunch you actually want people to enjoy.

A hotel space booked for a single session sits neatly in that gap.

What it costs

At Al Murjan Palace Hotel in Jounieh, the private rooftop lounge is $100 for a session — 06:00–12:00 or 12:00–18:00. The conference room, if you want something enclosed and more formal, is $50.

Split across fifteen people, the rooftop works out at under $7 a head for the space itself. That is less than the minimum spend most venues would impose before you had ordered anything.

What "private" buys you

• The whole space. No neighbouring tables, no queue for the bar, no closing time imposed by someone else's booking.
• Your own music, decoration and timing. Within reason and by arrangement, but the flexibility is the point.
• A view instead of a room. The rooftop looks over Jounieh bay, with Harissa behind. In late afternoon that does most of the decorating for you.
• Somewhere to retreat to. Add a day room for $40 and you have a base for changing, storing things, or getting an hour of quiet before guests arrive.

Practical planning

1. Pick the afternoon session for anything social. 12:00–18:00 ends with the best light of the day over the bay.
2. Sort catering separately and early. The space rate is the space. Agree food and drinks with the hotel in advance rather than on the day.
3. Confirm the weather plan. A rooftop in Lebanon is reliable from May to October and a gamble outside it. Ask what the indoor fallback is before you invite thirty people.
4. Give a real headcount. Capacity and service both depend on it.
5. Tell guests where it is — Haret Sakher, near Pasteur Hospital — and to allow time for the coast road.

The honest limitation

Sessions end at 18:00. If your event is fundamentally a night out, this is not your venue and you should book an evening space. What this is very good at is the daytime celebration — a long lunch that runs into the afternoon, ends while the light is still good, and lets everyone drive home.
